A belief in a higher power doesn't mean what you think it has to mean. You can believe in the higher power of alcoholism, controlling your life. It just means you accept that there are things bigger than you are, that you can't control. Right, and teaching people that they are not in control means they will relapse the moment they slip up once. Other approaches like cognitive behavior therapy work so much better specifically because they give people the tools to be in control.  I'm not religious at all, and I'm not the biggest fan of AA (it's a little too cult-like for me) but getting hung up on that "higher power" part isn't a reason to not look into it.

No real benefit in Colombia is so close to the equator. The only reason you'd do it is to stay in the same time zone relative to the U.S. and presumably your neighbors if they also change clocks. Up further north, there's a large difference between the amount of daylight in winter vs. summer. In summer it would be getting light out before you wake up which kinds screws with sleep. So, we move the clocks forward. There are also some energy savings since businesses are open during daylight hours. I've tried and recommended some of those things. We used to play games online together too. But he's more of the type to need me to be physically there. It's ironic because I learned to be more independent and keep my distance because of him. I used to be the one who always wanted to see and hang out with him, while he was fine with just seeing me once or twice a week before I left to go work overseas. The vulnerable part, I've always been the more emotional and vulnerable one in my family and in social situations, and I've been shut down a lot to by family and friends so it's hard to open up to people and just be their ears.
